As 2006 draws to a close the picture gallery tells the story of The Moreira Project's year.
We kicked the year off with an awesome concert at Kirstenbosch followed a few days later by a great vibe at Jazzathon at the waterfront. Mannenberg's were kind enough to host The Moreira Project in February and then we went to Johannesburg to perform for Absolut Vodka at the pretigious Michaelangelo Hotel. Back to Cape Town to prepare the Moreira Project in big band format for the extraordinary Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Next outing was back to Johannesburg for the knock out launch at Moloko Club in Rosebank. Then it was up to Maputo to be part of the moving tribute to Gito Baloyi. We wowed the crowds at the African Renaissance Festival before deciding to host our own concert at Nassau Centre. Despite competing with the Cricket final, we drew an enthusiastic crowd. The year was topped by appearing at The Top Billing Awards and that was followed a day later by playing for the MetroFM awards with Fistaz. There is a repeat of that on December 16th at the Metro FM Heatwave concert at Gugulethu Sports Complex.
The Moreira Project could always have been busier but the shows we were involved in were significant for many reasons. We have made a great many friends along the way and we would like to thank them for their support...Sarah Struys at Kirstenbosch for taking the risk to put such a young band on such an established stage, Craig and his team at JCQ, Clarence Ford and his partners at Manenbergs, Sharon, John and Johan at RGBC, John Pierre Roussouw and his wife at Beaumont wines, our friends in Mozambique, Blum Khan and his awesome staff at MHG, Rashid and Yana Lobard at ESP Afrika for believing, The guys at Heart 104.9 and the crew at Metro FM, Christopher de Vries and Koketso at OTB - you guys rock...keep going. Gavin Minter for including me in some exciting projects, Dagmar for always looking for awesome opportunities for us. Mickey and Pipas for including my music in your documentary. Graeme for all the guidance and on going sound advice. Calvin at the G-Spot for trying to do new things - don't give up! Pete, Gareth and Tamsin at The PR Team for keeping us in the news! Zwelethu for your continued love and support.
There are also a whole bunch of people who believe in The Moreira Project that we use for different things on a regular basis and usually they are asked to perform miracles with little money and no time! Thank you for helping us so willingly.
To every corporate who has had the courage to book The Moreira Project when it wasn't a household name! - Thank you
To each and every person who has bought a CD or come to a concert - Thank you.
To the various members of the band who have been paid little but given so much at every outing - Thank you
I love you all and look forward to creating magic and making music with you all in 2007.
