September 2007

Welcome to Spring!

Wow, was August a busy month. I thought I was to be allowed to vegetate in winter. My management don't think so! When I sat down a few days ago to look back at what we'd been doing in August, it is hard to believe that we packed so much in one month - Awesome.

I kicked the month off with playing at the Best of Levi's Vintage Sundays that was a stunning evening. I was playing with Bed on Bricks again and also doing 360 with Strait and Narro.

Then a few days later I played for the beautiful people for th CT Fashion Week media launch with percussionist John Hassan and DJ Gren. Funky.

Just after Woman's Day I was off to Nelspruit to do some promotional work and I did a show at the News Caf. What a stunning place. The people are so friendly and the vibe is great. Lowveld Living magazine who put the concept together is an excellent publication which is worth checking out.

I had a week of rehearsals before going to Johannesburg for the Moshito Conference and the Joy of Jazz. The Moreira Project had a magnificent show on the Mbira Stage. Thank you to those of you who came in early enough to see the show and thank you to the sound and lighting crew for being so helpful. Thank you T-Musicman for inviting us to join you for this amazing festival. What a line-up. The local and international acts were inspirational to watch.

3 days back in Cape Town to breath some sea air and then back to Egoli to join great Cuban pianist Omar Sosa and his Black Team. What a truly humbling experience. Each member of Black Team is a true dedicated master of his respective craft. What an honour to be able to play with such professional musicians.

I'm still trying to absorb all of this..see you later in September at the Whale Festival in Hermanus.

'Til next time
