MAY 2009 newsletter

I am still walking on air after the SA Music awards last weekend. I have still not completely absorbed the impact of winning the two SAMAs. My fellow nominees in the Best Contemporary Jazz category are legends of jazz in this country and I am humbles but thrilled to have been given the award.

We knew we had killer packaging but as the award was last awarded 4 years ago, we were unsure of what we were up against because pa ckaging design can be fairly subjective. We knew Zwelethu Mthethwa's photographs of me were awesome but again we didn't know how the judges would see it.

Anyway it is safe to say, we are estatic and we have been celebrating since the weekend! Thank you to everyone who had even a small part to do with creation of this fabulous album.

Despite some hiccups at the Mozambique Jazz Festival in April, The Moreira Project ended up having an awesome show. Thank you to my band for rising to the occasion. Thank you to all my fans and friends who came out to support me. Thank you Laurentina for your continued support and thank you M-cel for supporting not only me but all musicians with their huge sponsorship of the jazz festival.

The next week I had a stunning time performing with some amazing classical musicians at the Mozsambique International Music Festival. Thank you Moira for including me.

As winter descends on Cape Town, there are some exciting projects in the pipeline. We will keep you posted.

Keep warm and dry.

Obrigado por seu apoio.
