JUNE 2009 NEWSLETTER
As the end of June approaches, it is hard to believe that half the year has gone! This has been an interesting month. I have been able to avoid the worst of the Cape Town wet winter by popping back and forth to Maputo.
May ended with The Moreira Project playing at the Assembly club in Cape Town. What a stunning show. Thank you Evan Milton for inviting us to part of the Bandstand anniversary.
Mid month I was honoured to be invited to be part of the Eduardo Mondlane celebrations in Maputo. It was fun performing with the choir and the soloists. I had to rush back to Cape Town mid rehearsal to perform in Cape Town and then back for the show.
Despite the weather, life in Cape Town is busy for which I am grateful. My friend Najee popped in to Cape Town at the beginning of the month for a long weekend and it was stunning to see him again.
I come back to Maputo in July to SAMA celebration party and then on to the Innibos festival in Nelspruit.
Mid July I will be in Rio de Janeiro.I have been invited to play at the Silvio Barbarto tribute concert. He was the impresario of the Rio orchestra and was one of the unfortunate passengers on the fated flight from Rio to Paris last month. It is such a loss to the music industry. He was such a talented man. I am so excited and also a little nervous but it will be fun! I'll tell you all about it when I return.
I am also so saddened by the death of yet another musical genius - Michael Jackson. He was such a talent. So much has already been written about him since the world woke to the news on Friday last. I will miss his genius. His ability to do things differently and to push the barriers will be missed by the world over but his music will live forever. R.I.P brother.
Ate a Proxima. Viva o melhor da Vida.
