MAY 2010

Well...South Africa is into the final stretch as far as the 2010 FIFA World Cup is concerned and the excitement seems to be growing. I haven't seen a change in activity but you never know.

March ended on a high note for me being asked to produce three songs for Simpiwe Dana's new album. What an honour to be in the studio with such a talented lady. Then the Brazilian film crew arrived to film me for a documentary that they are shooting all over Africa.

The beginning of April started with the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and I was priviledged to be invited to play with Allou April as a guest artist on his show. Thank you Allou. Great music. Great time!

I flew to Maputo a few times in April. Once was for meetings regarding up an upcoming show and once was for an extraordinary concert for Jose Muskavel celebrating his 60th birthday and the 41st anniversary of being in the music business. I performed alongside Sibongile Khumalo and a number of other well known Mozambique musicians. It was a very inspirational concert for musicians and audience alike.

End of April saw The Moreira Project rock Zula Sound Bar in Long Street. It was a late night and we had to get up early the next morning to catch a plane to Harare. It was a sleepy band than made it to the airport to perform at the Harare International Festival of Arts. What a superb concert we had on the Global Stage. Thank you to everyone who came to see us play. It really was an international festival in Africa. There were people from all over the world there. Congratulations Manuel on managing to produce this festival for so long under difficult circumstances.

On Saturday we did an amazing workshop for young musicians at Mannenbergs that was really special and we finished off an awesome weekend with a concert back at Mannenbergs alongside Zimbabwe band Jazz Invitation. Wow!

Thank you to everybody involved with getting us to HIFA and Mannenbergs.Mmnino (Nac); Pamberi Trust; and HIFA administrators.

We bumped into old friends, made new ones and realised that Zimbabwe is rocking!

Please invite us back.
