We are entering the second half of the year with a bang. What a roller-coaster these past few months have been. Wasn't the World Cup exciting. I attended some amazing games. Cape Town was undoubtedly the place to be. The fan walk and fan fest was a blast.
I spent the first part of July in Maputo with meetings and finalising the arrangements for the show on 23rd July. I got back in time for Bastille Day in Cape Town and played with my old friend DJ Rene.
A few days later the band and I played at the open air Ubuntu Festival on Nelson Mandela's birthday 18th July.
Then it was back to Maputo for the final touches for the show on the 23rd at CFM. It was a huge operation but one that STV, VODACOM and LAURENTINA PREMIUM all handled so well given that the venue is a railway station and not a traditional concert venue.
The band arrived on the Thursday and spent all of the Friday in sound checks and rehearsals.
What an amazing concert it turned out to be. Thank you Maputo for coming out in your numbers to support the band and I. It was an event that I will treasure forever.
The following week, I went inland to Chimoio to attend the VI Cultural Festival Da Cultura. What an opening with the children and drummers. My goodness that was life-changing. Then I went onto Inhambane to the Tibila festival. What an experience to meet the Master himself, Venncio Mbande. All in all, I have heard and experience music like I have never experienced before. I am so filled with new sights and sounds and a new understanding of Chopi "Chope" music.
What an honour and a priviledge.
August is also promising to hold a host of interesting shows and experiences. What a year I am having. Lots of fun.
Best spring wishes,
