These past 3 months have been pretty insane!

I started March attending the graduation ceremony of ACRIPOL which was very inspirational . A few days later I was flying to Lisbon to perform at Lisbon Fashion Week with Angolan fashion designer, Nadir Tati. It was a glamourous and special occasion.

At the end of March, I attended the South African Jazz Educators Conference in Johannesburg, thanks to Pro Helvetia and Jeep with my colleague Timoteo Cuche. It was so interesting and so good to connect with my UCT family and musicians that I haven’t seen in a while.
The cherry on the top was being voted in as International Rep and board member for the SAJE. Thank you Mike Rossi for the great state you leave the SAJE. I also look forward to working with the new leadership on the way to taking the SAJE forward.

The pace continued in April with a quick trip to Luanda to repeat the show with designer Nadir Tati for a very esteemed audience. She is such an African talent.

Then it was back to Lisbon to perform in RTP Africa’s 20 th Anniversary. What a spectacular show. It was an honour and a privilege. Back to Maputo to put the final touches onto the arrangements for International Jazz Day.

Despite the wind coming up, Unesco’s International Jazz Day which More Promotions and MoreJazz organized and produced was a huge success. There was a stellar lineup of artists all who performed for the love of jazz. The Morejazz Big Band performed with a list of guest artists in the second half of the programme with great aplomb. I am so grateful to everyone who gave their time and energy to participate in this amazing project. It was a family day. It was a jazz lover’s day. It was a great day.

But the highlight of these three months must be receiving the Order of Merit from His Excellency Dr Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Portugal at a function held in Maputo in May. That jazz was recognized at this level in Mozambique was truly humbling and I am very grateful.

After three months like this, what do the next few months hold? Watch this space!
